Extra Security (XP)

As well as applying a firewall to whatever piece of network hardware is connected to SVW, it is important to disable all Windows services that are connected to this public network interface. Without doing this, you are more open to data corruption and compromise, viral infection, and even people being able to use equipment connected to your computer such as your hard drive or printer!

1. To do this, open Network Connections (See here, steps 1-4)

2. Now right click on whatever network hardware that is connecting your computer to SVW: either the wireless network card or the network card that is connected to your client AP

3. Select properties in the pop-up menu

4. Now uncheck all tick boxes in the middle box titled "this connection uses the following items:" and click OK

That's it! You've now disabled all the services that could potentially be a security threat
