{SearchText}How to set-up your computer to receive the SVW network
This document is large, please wait for all the pictures to download or print it out for future reference.
You need to set certain settings up in your computer to allow it to connect to the network. It is comparable to dialling into a regular ISP via a modem.
Make sure you are connected to the network via a wireless card or AP which is plugged into your network card.
1. Make sure you've logged in with administrator rights
2. Go to Start>Control Panel

3. If your screen looks like below, double click on "Network Connections" and go to step 5. Otherwise go to step 4.

4. If your screen looks like below, click on "Network and Internet Connections":

then click on "Network Connections"

5. Click on "Create a new connection"

6. Click "Next" then select "Connect to the Internet" and click Next

7. Select "Set up my connection manually" and click Next

8. Select "Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password" and click Next

9. Enter your name for the connection into the next box. How about "SVW Network"...! and click Next

10. Enter your user name and password as supplied by SVW. Put a check in the
- top box- if you want any user on your computer to be able to use SVW
- middle box- if you want SVW to be your default Internet connection (RECOMMENDED)
- bottom box- if you want to turn on the firewall to protect your computer from hacking from the Internet (RECOMMENDED)

Now click Next, then click Finish (we recommend you put a tick in the box next to "add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop")
10. That's it! Your computer should now be set-up and ready to connect to the network- your computer may now prompt you to connect. Otherwise, to connect, either
- double click on the desktop icon "SVW Network" OR
- some people may have "SVW Network" under the Start>Connect To menu OR
- go to "Network Connections"- see step 2 and double click on "SVW Network"

In any case, connection should be almost instantaneous.
If you accidentally clear the user name and/or password boxes, just re-enter the ones SVW gave you.
It's much like a normal dial-up connection isn't it!
Your connection can be left open as long as you want; please remember if you log off, disconnect or turn your computer off, you will have to reconnect as described in the paragraph above. Of course, you may automate the connection i.e. get your computer to log on to SVW whenever somebody turns your computer on.
